Roadside assistance, also known as breakdown recovery service, was a service that assisted drivers whose vehicles had suffered a mechanical failure that the driver was either unable to fix or that prevented them from reasonably or efficiently getting the vehicle to a repair shop. Roadside assistance employees responded to calls for service to inspect the vehicle and attempt to render appropriate repairs or tow the vehicle to a repair shop. Some roadside assistance companies provided customers with a replacement vehicle for their convenience while their original vehicle was being transported to a service station or being repaired. |
